Galynin became an orphan at a very young age and revealed his musical talents at his orphanage. He was accepted as a pupil at the school of the Moscow Conservatory. He later studied there with Shostakovich and many of his compositions were used for music examinations. He was awarded the Stalin Prize for his Epic Poem.
