LOU RAWLS and David Axelrod - both names separately stand for musical legends, on the one hand the singer, colorful in every respect, a grandiose performer with an unmistakable voice, at home in all stylistic sectors between soul, rhythm & blues, jazz and pure pop, which he always put his own stamp on, on the other hand the resourceful producer (and musician) with unusual sound ideas and exciting arrangements. Together, they created true song and album milestones during the second half of the 60s, as the new compilation "I Can't Make It Alone" documents. Including a rare single, it contains 24 tracks from the nine studio albums, most of which were recorded in the Capitol Tower studios in Los Angeles, superb songs and outstanding cover versions, recordings that ultimately marked the first career peak for LOU RAWLS: He played at the '67 Monterey Pop Festival (as the only soul act besides Otis Redding), bagged Grammys and landed high in the charts with several numbers. the collaboration with Axelrod and the label ended in 1970, and LOU RAWLS moved (admittedly no less successfully) into Philly soul territory.
