Miguel Bonal was born in Zaragoza in 1999 and began studying the viola da gamba at the age of seven. He continued his training at the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya, where he received the highest honors. For his first solo recital, published as part of the Alpha Classics series "Baroque Stories" dedicated to new talents, he presents a program of reference works for viola da gamba as well as transcriptions: We move from the magnificent soldier music of Tobias Hume to the sophistication of Marin Marais and Abel, from the virtuosity of Schenck to the stylistic synthesis of Telemann ... Miguel Bonal also lets us hear the whole secret of Bach's Suite for Cello No. 2 in D minor on the viola da gamba, before venturing into the music of the 19th century with Gabriel Fauré's famous Après un rêve and Francisco Tárrega's Recuerdos de la Alhambra, further proof of the timelessness of the viola da gamba.
