Idil Biret's early Parisian recordings (1949-1959) illustrate her remarkable development from child prodigy to celebrated pianist. After entering the Paris Conservatoire at the age of eight, she studied with renowned teachers such as Nadia Boulanger. in 1953, Biret performed at the Theatre des Champs-Elysees with the Orchestre de la Societe des Concerts du Conservatoire under Joseph Keilberth, sharing the stage with the legendary pianist Wilhelm Kempff. This collaboration was an important milestone in her career. A decisive moment came in 1955 when Arthur Rubinstein, impressed by her sensitivity and technical mastery, predicted a great future for her as a pianist. Biret's repertoire during these years encompassed works from the Baroque to the Romantic, including Bach, Schumann and Brahms, and reflected both her versatility and her deep musical understanding. These historic recordings capture the spirit of post-war Paris and the rise of a pianist destined for an extraordinary international career.
