The Horace Silver Quintet had already regrouped in the recording year 1965 and with Woody Shaw on trumpet and Joe Henderson on tenor saxophone, rising talents had become an integral part of the BlueNote family. Trombonist J. J. Johnson joins the troupe around pianist Horace Silver as a guest musician. Musically, Silver makes use of a certain exoticism and draws inspiration from the Cape Verdean melodies of his father's homeland. The album is much more progressive than Silver had originally planned, but you can always hear the touch of soul in the music. In addition to the soloists mentioned above, the Horace Silver Quintet also consists of Bob Crenshaw on bass and Roger Humphries on drums. This title is part of a whole series of XRCD24 reissues from the BlueNote catalog and was remastered from the analog stereo tapes at Oceanway Studios in Hollywood by Alan Yoshida, one of the inventors of the XRCD process. The sonic qualities of the XRCDs newly released under the Audio Wave label go far beyond previous digitizations and in some cases sound considerably better than the original LPs. The XRCD comes with an elaborately designed booklet with outstanding photographs.
