For L'Invisible, too, Aribert Reimann - after most recently Bernarda Alba's House and Medea - falls back on texts from world literature, which he arranged as his own librettist. This marks his return to his "parent house," the Deutsche Oper Berlin. Four of his stage works were commissioned by the house, and now the world premiere of his new, ninth opera took place here. It was directed by Vasily Barkhatov, one of the most interesting Russian directors of his generation, who made his debut at the house on Bismarckstrasse after working at the Bolshoi Theater in Moscow and the Mariinsky Theater in St. Petersburg, among others. The premiere was conducted by the GMD, Donald Runnicles himself.
